Should I let my education get in the way of my learning?

I am really interested in free market economics, as well as philosophy and applying it to politics. I love to learn about this stuff and I am reading an economic book and articles on the internet. The thing is I am 16 years old and in grade 11. I have marketing, math, wood shop and law. Pretty much everything except math is useless. I do work in math knowing that I will need it. But I have a marketing cpt that I should be working on and I will have to do that instead of learning. The project is really boring and honestly useless.

My parents really care about marks. But school doesn’t teach me anything. I just temporarily memorize things. So I am trying to learn but school is getting in the way…

How is the exchange rate calculated at ATM’s and for international wires?

I have a bank account here in Scotland. I also have a bank account in the USA. I was wondering how the exchange rate is calculated if I use my American ATM Card at say…an RBS ATM. I read an article on the internet that said ATM’s actually go by the wholesale market rate, but I’m not sure if that is true.

Also, how is the exchange rate calculated for international wires? Is it the same wholesale market rate? Is it based on the USA bank or the bank here in Scotland?

I’m basically trying to decide if I would be better off sending myself a wire from the USA or simply pulling money out of an ATM and then depositing it into my account here.

Unauthorized income for H1B workers?

Yesterday, I was reading some article on web which made me concerned. What exactly is unauthorized income for H1B workers in USA. Is self-employment or making money on internet unauthorized income?

I don’t want to hamper my Green Card processing in any way. Is it true that I can’t file any 1099-MISC or W-2G form in my tax return. Even gambling win requires me to file one of those.

I didn’t have any income from any of these till now but came very close to claiming a Sweepstakes win. I was planning to invest in Silver. But I don’t want to create any problem so if its not allowed I will stay away from it and anything like that.

Can’t a corporation do the same “evils” as the government can do?

I was reading Vladimir Lenin’s “Imperialism, the Highest Stage of Capitalism”.

He brings up a good point of that, a corporation can do the same dirty tricks as a government could do. Now let me ask you something, why would you want corporations running free? Don’t you realize a free market is a delusion, a natural monopoly will form. I mean look at Microsoft when they designed their software not to allow any other internet browser besides IE.

In a free market, two corporations can get together to make a deal. One will stay in the North and the other will stay in the South, hence they won’t compete against each other. Now, you might say another company could rise up, but the problem with that is what if they hired a private militia. Or if they censor the competition, much of like Microsoft.

Prove me wrong, righties.

How to gain administrator rights?

hi all, i work for a multinational company, which is somehow a market leader in many fields, anyway, this issue is that i got a laptop from them, but as usual, i’m not the administrator on it, i’m missing a lot of access rights, surely can’t install any software (which is needed to my work to deliver in higher speed, and we even have a license for it on the company‘s server) i also can’t connect to the internet from my home network, as i don’t have the rights to manage network connections, i can’t use the wirless connection, between many other things, but i still need this current account as it’s, cos form it i can check my business mail, and this is the only way to do it, and i don’t also mind keeping the help desk administrative rights, i saw some guys from my work place installing a software under dos & now they all have the administrator rights, but they didn’t pass the software over for me. can anybody help me with it?

1-i asked the help desk ppl to install software for me, which the company has a license to use it, and it was issued 2 years ago, they answered that they can’t do it as they r still testing it, and they have to convience all users allover the company to use the newer version instead of the the one we r using now (6 years old), and it wans’t the only time that i asked them, and they didn’t help, some of their answers r justified,but some other r not acceptted even.

2-i got answeres now that i can’t do it, while i see infront of me right now computers with full access rights, which is granted by installing this DOS software from a pootable CD, this is all i know about it, and i was here asking to know more about it.

Stock trading for fast money?

I am biginer in stock market but have fairy good knowledge from reading over the internet from different sites. I have fund of 7000 – 10000 for investment in stocks. I generally go to check on Yahoo, MSN, AGedwards, Motely fools site to know about company and picking stock for investment. My idea is to wait for particular stock to rise 2 – 3 dollar per share price and sale it and pick another stock. In a year my aim is to get 1000 – 2000 dollars as gain of my investment.

My questions are -

a) Am I doing the right thing or is there any better idea ?

b) Generally I fill up 1040EZ form for IRS, but with this kind of stock trading and transaction of say 10 – 12 per year saling stock and making small gain at short interval. What kind of form I need to fill up for IRS ?

c) For stock trading and educating self for filing IRS return – where should I get information on IRS publication ? As how to file return and what to consider for paying gain tax.

d) I use H & R block software

Is it true that EA’s Origin is Spyware and Keylogger ?

Today after I bought a game via Origin , I found many of my friends telling me that it’s Spyware and keylogger and EA already admits that in its privacy policy so they are going to boycott EA . Here’s what their privacy policy state :

Help, high resting heart rate at 15!!?

Anyway, i just joined a gym and found out on the assessment that my resting heart rate is about 101 and when i was on a cardio machine, the stairmaster, i saw on the heart rate monitor that it reached 210( after only a few minutes on the machine), i didn’t know what was normal so i didn’t think anything of it. I then asked my mother as she was in the health care field and she says that’s a crazy heart rate. I do martial arts so it’s not like i’m sitting around aaaaaaallll the time although i have been getting back into internet marketing lately so spending more time on the computer. I’m not the best writer. I’ve been writing for iWriter and postloop recently and for the amount of time I spend doing it, I think its a waste. I’m a creative writer, but if you give me a topic, I can write on it. However, it’ll take me forever. A seasoned writer can write a 200-300 word article in about 15-20 minutes. Me, I get distracted and wordblocked (I think that’s the term lol) and it takes me almost an hour…all for about 1-3 bucks!

Anyway, I’m hoping not to spend too much on equipment or books. Hopefully, I can find all I need at the library! I’m up for any new skill, as I love learning. I don’t mind it being something alway from the computer, like a craft of some sort.

I tried MLM, but I just don’t have the budget for autoshipments and marketing at this time. I’ve also got into internet marketing, I’ll continue doing a few things in my spare time, but at this time I’d rather do something better.

Those SPAMMERS know a simple but odd myth about SEO. That’s a .GOV ( Dot Gov ) or .EDU ( Dot Edu ) domain is a great advantage for SEO. Maybe they are because those sites have good reputation ( Google PageRank, AlexaRank ) and low out-bound links. So these sites really improve SEO. But those sites shouldn’t be used for SPAM or Bad-Linking. A site containing a Bad-Link can penalize or blacklist a site in Search Engines very fast. As we can see WWW-Dot-DPE-Dot-GOV-Dot-BD ( Department Of Primary Education Bangladesh ).

I was searching some of Bangladeshi Govt. sites. I have found lot’s of weird linking in our reputed Govt. sites. These sites are managed by govt. employees or some hired company. These sites are not editable. Maybe some blog type sites have comment system, but most of sites are on static HTML page. So it’s not possible for someone outside to edit those Static HTML pages. That means those SPAM links are inserted by someone who manage these sites.

How google searches……………..?

In the beginning the Internet was but a confusing mass of documents. Finding information, by searching the World Wide Web, was nearly impossible until the first search engines came along. Early search engines were like rudimentary life-forms (Remember Yahoo! Search and Alta Vista?).

They got the job done, but as more people gained access to the web, their limitations and dependence on the information that content creators put on so-called meta tags (strings of text that identified the content of the page in the source code) meant that such engines were liable to be abused.

Into this fast-expanding, yet messy space came Google. To cut a long story short, what Google did was organise information a lot better. Instead of depending on the text of a web page to determine the search results, it determined the page’s influence using a variety of factors-including how many times a page had been viewed or linked to. From those early days, Google made searching the Internet reliable and over the past decade has grown into the behemoth it is today.

But there is more to the Internet than Google and more to search as well. Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer told BT five years ago that Google was just a flash in the pan, as Microsoft readied its (then) latest search engine. Microsoft did not get too far then, but laid the foundation for an effort that churned out Bing, its search engine launched last year. The engine uses a process similar to Google’s ‘PageRank’ algorithm and gets a boost from technology tailored to throw up relevant results. The result: it has garnered one-fourth market share in the United States.

Google is not standing still. “In the early days, much of the Internet was static, your ‘web crawlers’ would go out every few days, sometimes even weeks to find information. Today, in the age of Twitter, the Internet happens in ‘real time’ and we have to reflect that,” said Amit Singhal, a Google Fellow, present at the company’s recent Science of Search conference in Tokyo.

For instance, if you are reading about Barack Obama’s actions in the Gulf of Mexico BP oil spill, highlighting “Obama” will not do a generic search for Obama but for the US President and the oil spill. This is still a beta (test) service rolled out to a few users.

Google, meanwhile, is also taking search to mobile devices – a trend that its executives underscored at the Tokyo conference. Google’s voice search is today enabled on most smartphones. Goggles allows users to take a picture from a mobile phone and gives you a result on the image. Google plans to make both mobile voice and image search faster and is throwing a lot of its engineering resources behind that.

And its needs to. Google’s biggest rival here is not Microsoft but Apple whose iPhone is the dominant smartphone platform in terms of mindspace. Apple recently bought Siri, which makes a “mobile personal assistant” application that works through voice commands. Silicon Valley is betting that the “human-computer interface” will increasingly move away from text to voice and images.

I´d be very grateful to you for correcting my mistakes (and also my grammar)

There are two pieces of technology I really love: Computers and MP3 players.
I think computers are really useful these days. I’ve been using them for over 23 years. At that time I used to work for a plastic company as an accountant and before having computers in my working place it used to take me about five or six hours to do the books every day. When my department was computerized, only two hours as much. I found amazing the way the computer saved me so much time and corrected mistakes so quickly even though computers were very basic back then. CD ROMS, DVDs, Microsoft Office, the Internet were marketed a few years later so software packages were especially designed for you according to your needs and a full computer equipment and software were worth a fortune. Of course I had to do a course on computers so that everything worked properly. However I couldn’t have one at home until ten years later when computers went down in price. Since then, I’ve had three different computers and I don’t think I could live without one. Having a computer is as having a big encyclopaedia at home. I’m studying English and I find easier and quicker to look up new words in online dictionaries than in traditional ones. I also enjoy downloading music from the Internet and I’ve got some music files which are really fantastic. Another advantage is to be able to send and get emails. It’s quicker and cheaper than traditional mail or phoning. My sister’s just had a granddaughter and she often sends me a lot of photos of her son’s baby. Another posotove thing is if you’re quite interested in some news or information about something from everywhere in the world you can get them at any time.
But there are some things about computers I don’t like at all. For example, I’m not very keen on chatting to people on line. It’s really boring, especially when people behind your screen are clumsy at computers or type very slowly. Sitting in front of my computer gathering cobwebs while I’m waiting for their news gets on my nerves. Another thing I really hate is when my computer is attacked by computer viruses despite having a good antivirus protection program. It’s very hard to find and remove them because some of them hide in other files again. It also drives me crazy to see so many advertisements on the websites that I usually visit. Well, I think no one likes that because it’s really annoying. But worst of all, and that I can’t stand it at all, is when my English teacher makes me speak to a computer to record me. I feel so stupid that I can’t say a word. I did that last year and I haven’t been able to get over that trauma yet. But definitely computers are one of the best inventions in the world if you use them responsibly

What else? Yes… As I said before my other favourite piece of technology is my MP3 player. I really like the fact that with my MP3 player I can do my things and listen to music at the same time. My daily routine has been much less boring since I got it. When it comes to do the housework I usually do it with my headphones on listening to heavy metal music so I clean at full speed and finish quite earlier. I also take it with me when I have to go out for anything. It’s very relaxing to be able to walk along the streets and feel the music filling your head with beautiful songs instead of the noise of people and traffic. I find it essential to long queues and waits. The only problem is you can’t hear anything around you.

Action Program (marketing)??? Help!!!?

I’m a business major, and taking this class online. I’m pretty much done with this assignment, it’s basically a business case study. The business has a restaurant/bar, and is incorporating a hotel and convention center. Anyway, I’m to the part of the assignment where I must make an Action Program. I understand this is to show how I plan to carry out all of my marketing strategies I listed in my promotion plan. I’ve never done this, and it took me forever to figure as much out as I’ve already told you.

Now to add insult to ignorance, I’ve been told these are usually done through some sort of chart or graph. However, I can’t find an example of one anywhere on the internet, to get any inspiration from. Is is possible that these go by another name as well? I haven’t been able to find much info on “Action Programs”. Anyone with any knowledge of this please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Demand/Supply/Price decrease or increase in a market?

Hi, I need to find a change in demand, supply, or price. The prompt is “Find an article in a recent newspaper, magazine, or the internet illustrating a change in price or quantity in some market.” I can’t seem to find a good topic. Also, the topic has to be from December 2006 until now. I just need to say whether demand or supply changed once I have the topic.

What are the differences between being paid out short-tem or long-term dividends (closed-end fund)?

I mostly invest in stocks, but when I was new to the market I bought an closed-end fund (symbol: IIF). Recently I saw this article:

What does this mean for me? I can think of a couple of ways of interpreting it.
- It could mean that the fund had short-term capital gains of $0.10 per share and long-term capital gains of $4.80 a share, which to me means that I will receive $4.90 a share.
- It could also mean that the shares I hold are somehow ear-marked as short-term or long-term

Also, it seems that every time the fund the declares is a distribution (dividend), the price drops 10%… what’s going on here… my only guess is that they are selling positions to pay the dividend, thus the net holdings are less, affecting what people are willing to pay for it.

I have searched the Internet for a while looking for some insight into this, but I always get the basic “What percentage are long-term, short-term capital gains taxed at”?

The Entertainment industy in US! anybody who can help me?

Hello, im Alice from South Korea and im doing research on the entertainment industry in US, but the problem is that I can’t find any decent results from the Internet. I mean, I can find journals or articles about US entertainment industry itself, like its market size or growing rate or so. However, I couldn’t find any articles or journals talking about status of labor market of US entertainment industry and about how many agencies or management firms related to this field exist and how they contract with actors or singers and if there is any problem of this system. ( do you know what i mean?)

If there is any way to find these results – in my country, of course – thro interent or library, would you plz let me know how to? Also, I will very appreciate that if you let me know good websites or book about it.
